Past Construction Projects
building or renovating schools in Honduras
The SCW.CA Construction Division has devoted the vast majority of its energies to building or renovating schools in Honduras. Our construction projects in Honduras are meant to align with the Master Plan originally developed by SCW.USA and the Honduran government. To date, SCW.CA has helped to reconstruct or renovate 5 Honduran schools which provide
schooling to hundreds of students annually. The total value of these construction projects is
approximately $300 000.
• El Bambu Departamento de Colon: In the early part of 2007, we started and finished
the construction of a one classroom addition to El Bambu; this also included renovation
of an existing classroom plus some site work.
• El Ocotillo Departamento de Valle: In 2009, we completed the construction of one classroom at El Ocotillo; renovation to existing school was completed as well.
• Pena Blanca Departmento de Cortez: SCW.CA’s largest completed project to date. A seven classroom school with additional ancillary areas.
• Terreitos School: Replacement of decaying wood roof with a new steel structure.
• Portillo Norte: One new classroom, kitchen, storage room, water storage element, and
two toilets.
Concurrently, SCW.CA has supported minor renovation efforts in Honduras which are often
undertaken by SCW.USA and their Education Team during their Winter and Summer trips to
Honduras.

Future Construction Projects
development efforts in Honduras and Haiti
In 2010, SCW.CA decided to help with redevelopment efforts in Haiti. Presently, SCW.CA has
entered into partnerships with other NGOs and domestic architectural firms to maximize our
influence in the region and ensure efficiency. We have conducted a thorough assessment of
need with the help of an experienced team of architects. This assessment convinced SCW.CA to commit to the design of two school construction projects which will be funded and built by the
Spanish Red Cross. These schools are Lycee Anacona de Leogane High School and Louis Borno
Primary School. Collectively, these schools have a student enrolment of over 3000.
The two Haiti projects that SCW.CA has claimed ownership of are
being designed by two
architecture firms which SCW.CA Directors are
members of.
SCW.CA also continues its commitments in Honduras. It is presently building one school,
Portillo Norte, and has already undertaken a comprehensive assessment of three others (Amor
y Vida Kindergarten, Juan Morales Reyes Kindergarten, and John F Kennedy School ) as part
of grant applications to Rotary International and the Canadian International Development Agency. We have also secured funding for a fifth new Honduran school construction project,
Santa Cruz de Yoja, which was recently brought to out attention by our Honduran team. In
total, these new Honduran projects will provide improved school facilities to over
1000 students.
